The Realtors® Association of the Palm Beaches has created a Certified Attainable Housing Specialist program to recognize those Realtors® who have committed their time and obtained experience in working the affordable housing market. Realtors® who acquire the certification will be encouraged to market themselves as completing the program. A list of Realtors® who complete the program will also be included on the Housing Opportunity Alliance Website.
In order to qualify for the certification, Realtors® must meet the following criteria:
Affordable Housing Transactions
Applicant must have at least four affordable housing transactions that they either listed or sold in the past five years. Affordable housing is defined as any single family home, multifamily dwelling or condominium priced at $280,000 or below.
If the applicant has had a client that successfully obtained down payment assistance through the SHIP program, only two transactions are needed (one SHIP, one affordable).
Affordable Housing Continuing Education
Attending Attainable Housing classes are required for the Certification and are worth 3 CE credits. The course series will begin again in the Fall, dates to be announced. The Courses are:
Participation with any charitable, not for profit, civic or religious organization with affordable housing programs or needs for which you have provided at least ten hours of time in volunteer service in the last two years. Attendance at the monthly Palm Beach County Commission on Affordable Housing, County Commission or municipality commission meetings can also be used for the civic involvement portion of the certification. Click here for suggestions of involvement opportunities.
Recertification
Realtors® must apply for recertification every three (3) years. Recertification requirements are the same as the initial requirements.
